Quotes

Does Parnwell Painting charge for quotes?
We don't charge a fee to provide a quote for your painting project.
Can you give me a quote over the phone?
No. We don't provide quotes over the phone because we pride ourselves on quality and accuracy. Every home is unique, we need to be able to see the home firsthand to give you the most accurate price based on the scope of works to be done.
Do I need to be home for a painting quote?
It is best to be home for any painting quote. To go over what type of painting you are wanting, (interior painting, exterior painting, etc.) with your estimator fromParnwell Painting and so there is no confusion about the paint job. You will need to be home for any interior painting quotes, however you may not need to be home for an exterior painting quote. Your house painter can examine the exterior paint and condition of your home with no one home. If your not home you will need to go over any painting details at a later time with your house painter, so nothing will be missed at that time. Always make sure to note all painting and preparation concerns, so both you and your painter are aware.
When can I expect my quote to arrive?
Usually, quotes are completed and sent out via email within three to four business days of intial site visit.
Are your rates competitive?
Yes, when we quote a job we include the prep work to prepare the work surface, the materials, premium paint and the finished project. If you are shopping for the cheapest painting contractors, that is not Parnwell Painting. We provide high quality craftsmanship for interior and exterior painting in the Nelson and Tasman areas.
When I get different quotes from several companies, they are never the same, some high, some low. Why is there such a price difference?
You should never select a painter solely on price. You need to feel confident and informed about what you are getting for the money you are paying. The cost of a job is usually determined by the level of thoroughness, quality of paint used, attention to detailand quality desired. It costs more to properly prepare a surface for painting than to just water blast and scrape the surface. The majority of the cost of painting is in the surface preparation and the labour involved in the application of the paint and not the actual cost of the paint itself. As with most other industries, generally you get what you pay for and accepting a low quote may lower the final price but if the painter cuts corners to get the job done, it will end up costing you more in the long run. At Parnwell Painting, we make it our mission to not only use the highest quality paint from Resene and deliver the results you want, but also to make sure that you have the customer service you deserve.

When do I pay Parnwell Painting?

Paint and Colours

When do you need my colour choices?
Colour choices for painting must be submitted via email to Parnwell Painting by the Client three working days prior to commencement of work. Please ensure you provide the correct brand name, colour name and code when submitting colours.
What type of paint does Parnwell Painting use?
Our team uses premium Resene products for house painting and premium Carboline products for industrial painting.
How will the paint be applied?
While each job varies, a combination of brush and roll is typically used to paint most interior and exterior areas. Exterior roofs are commonly spray painted.
What if I don't like the colour I picked?
We want you happy upon the completion of your job. But regardless of the quality of work done, you may be unhappy with the colours you choose. After selecting a painting contractor, the selection of colours to be used are the next most important decision that you need to make. Take your time on colour selection and only use a company that is willing to assist you in making those decisions. Ask for colour charts ahead of time and buy a testpot of paint to try it on a couple of different areas of your home as well as in different types of lighting. The cost of a few samples of paint is much cheaper than repainting a room or entire house if you end up unhappy with the colour chosen. If you do not want to change the color of your home, then just ask us to match the existing color and we will most likely be able to do that.
What is a paint finish?
Paint finish refers to the amount of sheen in a paint. You can choose from a flat, low sheen, semi gloss, or gloss finish.
Can you assist with colour consulting?
Yes, if the quotation is accepted Parnwell Painting can arrange a free no obligation colour scheme from Resene colour consultants at their Nelson store.
Can Parnwell Painting match an existing colour in my home?
Yes. Once we have a sample of the existing colour, we can provide a match.
How many coats of paint is applied?
We paint until there is full coverage and at least two full coats are usually required depending on your quote Scope of Works to get a quality and durable interior or exterior paint job.

Project Specifics

What should I do to prepare for the painting after we accept a quote?
Prior to starting your project, we ask that you move fragile or breakable items for example, pictures, glassware, and electronic devices where possible. We can move furniture and even a wall-mounted TV if needed. Upon painting completion of the room, we move everything back into place.
Do I have to be home while Parnwell Painting is painting my home?
No, you do not have to be home during the painting, but we would like you to be home when our foreperson starts the job so that you can show them the work area and they can review the scope of works with you. We would also like you to be available at the job completion to do a walk through with our job foreperson.
Will the inside of my home get messy?
No. As we handle the entirety of your project from start to finish, you can be sure that our crew will prepare your home for painting tidily. This includes moving furniture and appliances. We are always clean, courteous, helpful and considerate in our work.
Can you paint my home while I'm away on holiday?
Yes. We do this often. If you will be away from your home for an extended time frame while we are working on your home please leave us with important contact details and names. Ideally we would like to meet prior to your departure to go over all the particulars of the work before you leave. Our security checked crew is on site every day to make sure your project is completed on time and according to plan.
How many painters will Parnwell Painting send to my home?
The amount of painters required will depend upon the size and scope of the painting project. Please contact us at our office for information regarding your specific painting project.

Our painters are experienced in plasterering repairs. Virtually any repairs that need to be made can be done as part of the preparation work we do prior to painting.
How will Parnwell Painting protect my personal property from paint?
On interiors, after you have removed your delicate items, all areas or remaining items, will be covered with clean drop cloths or plastic sheeting. On exteriors, shrubs and surrounding areas will be protected so that no evidence of paint splatter or paint peelings remains.
Do you hire painting sub contractors?
No. When hiring a contractor often times you meet the owner and a ‘sub-contractor’ will show up at your door. At Parnwell Painting we pride ourselves in the reputation of being a family run business and we put our family name behind all our work. A Parnwell Painitng employee will be onsite at your property to ensure the job is completed to our satisfaction.
How long should I expect the paint job to last?
A professional paint job should last anywhere from 5-10 years, although it depends on a number of factors beyond our control. The biggest factor affecting the longevity is the sun. If you don’t have much or any shade, your home will fade much faster than if it were protected. Darker colours also fade faster than lighter ones. Some surfaces also hold paint better than others. With shaded areas, if they can’t dry out on a regular basis, moisture can find its way in and cause damage.
Who will be there to answer my questions or to address any concerns I may have throughout the project?
Maintaining open line of communication with you is very important to us. Your job foreperson should be able to answer most questions but please feel free to contact our office staff at any time to address concerns or answer any questions you may have whatsoever.
What hours do the Parnwell Painting crews work?
We generally work Monday to Friday 8am to 4:30pm. We can do work at other hours if needed, but these are our standard working hours.
How long will it take to paint my house?
Each painting project is unique. Depending on the Scope Of Works to be completed we will discuss with you the projected start date and completion date of your project before work gets under way. The time frame to paint an average size house is approximately 1 to 2 weeks.
Does Parnwell Painting tidy up when the job is finished?
At Parnwell Painting we pride ourselves on leaving your home the way it was when we arrived. Any paint debris or dust will be properly disposed of. For interior jobs our painters will make sure to do a complete cleanup of debris and vacuum floors ensuring that your home is left in the same condition it was when we arrived.

Yes. We can paint exteriors during winter due to the latest devolopments in paint with winter grade paints drying in temperatures as low as 3 degrees.

We are accredited contractors for the removal of lead based paint. We can test your existing paint and then remove it safely if it does test positive for lead.

Fantastic to deal with, we cannot rate them highly enough.

Recently used Parnwell Painting to paint inside and outside of house. They are fantastic to deal with, we cannot rate them highly enough! They are all incredibly professional, friendly and respectful of your home and pets! Had no concerns at all of having them in our home while we were at work. Definitely recommend them and would use them again. Their quote was also very competitive. We never knew our home could look so good!
